"One body has been recovered by the firefighters from the site of the fire that broke out in the slums near Rithala Metro Station. One injured is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. More details awaited," the Delhi Fire Service said in an official statement.

The injured child was immediately transported to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of property damage and investigating the cause of the fire.

Officials on Scene

Delhi Fire Service officer S.K. Dua confirmed that the firefighting and cooling operations continued until early Saturday morning to ensure the fire did not reignite.

While the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, early reports suggest that tightly packed housing structures and inflammable materials within the slum contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Local Impact

Residents of Bengali Basti were evacuated from nearby shanties as flames spread quickly. Emergency services, including police and medical personnel, were deployed to assist in rescue and relief efforts.

Authorities are now working to provide temporary shelter and aid to the affected families.
