In a coordinated humanitarian effort, 197 Indian nationals stranded in Thailand were repatriated to India through special Indian Air Force (IAF) flights, the Indian Embassy in Bangkok confirmed on Monday.
The mission was carried out from Mae Sot, a border town in western Thailand, with the active support of Thai authorities and India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
🇮🇳 Joint Effort Between India and Thailand
According to the Indian Embassy, the operation was part of a special evacuation initiative undertaken to bring back Indian citizens caught amid regional instability in border areas.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul personally visited Mae Sot airport to oversee the evacuation process. He was accompanied by senior Thai officials and security personnel managing logistics.
“Prime Minister Anutin expressed his government’s full support and cooperation for the safe return of Indian nationals,” the embassy said in an official statement.
The Indian Ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh, met Prime Minister Anutin at the airport and thanked the Royal Thai Government for its assistance and coordination.
Special Air Force Flights Deployed
Two Indian Air Force C-130J Super Hercules aircraft were deployed to facilitate the safe and swift transport of the stranded individuals.
The repatriation operation was completed successfully within hours, under the supervision of both IAF officials and Thai security agencies.
Sources said that the returning passengers underwent medical screening and documentation before boarding the aircraft.
All evacuees are reported to be in good health, and upon arrival in India, they will undergo routine immigration and medical checks.
“The operation reflects the deep cooperation and trust between India and Thailand in handling humanitarian crises,” a defence official noted.
Background: Rising Regional Tensions
The evacuation comes amid reports of cross-border disturbances near Thailand’s northwestern frontier, affecting civilian movement in certain areas.
Although officials have not specified the exact cause, the Indian Embassy stated that several Indian workers and students had requested emergency evacuation due to safety concerns.
India’s swift diplomatic and military response highlights its commitment to citizens’ welfare abroad — consistent with earlier operations such as Operation Kaveri (Sudan) and Operation Ganga (Ukraine).
India–Thailand Diplomatic Coordination
The Indian Embassy in Bangkok extended gratitude to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration Bureau, and Royal Thai Air Force for their assistance.
Ambassador Nagesh Singh emphasized that the successful coordination reflects the “strategic and people-centric partnership” between India and Thailand.
“India deeply appreciates the Thai government’s cooperation in ensuring the safety of our nationals during this challenging time,” the Embassy’s statement read.
