Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand – In a large-scale rescue effort, 566 residents have been safely evacuated from the flood-hit regions of Uttarkashi district, the government confirmed today. Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has triggered flash floods and landslides, leaving hundreds stranded in remote and hilly areas.

According to officials, rescue operations are still underway to assist over 300 more people trapped in inaccessible locations. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police are working around the clock despite challenging weather conditions.

"Our priority is to ensure no life is lost. The rescue teams are navigating tough terrain and blocked roads to reach those in need," said an Uttarakhand government spokesperson.

The Gangotri and Yamunotri valleys have been worst affected, with swollen rivers damaging bridges, roads, and communication networks. Helicopter assistance has been deployed to airlift stranded people where road access is completely cut off.

Residents reported widespread damage to homes, farmland, and livestock. Relief camps have been set up in safer zones, providing food, drinking water, and medical assistance to evacuees.

Meteorological officials have issued further heavy rainfall alerts for the region over the next 48 hours, raising concerns of additional flooding and landslides. Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to move to designated shelters.

The state government has announced immediate relief funds for the affected families and assured that road restoration work is being carried out on a war footing.
