800 Students from Northeast Visit ISRO Facilities in Bengaluru
A total of 800 science students from the eight Northeastern states of India are participating in visits to ISRO centres in Bengaluru this year under the North East Students’ Programme for Awareness, Reach, and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS). This ambitious initiative, funded jointly by the Ministry of DoNER and State Governments, is designed to nurture curiosity and aspiration in space science, technology, and STEM fields.
About the NE-SPARKS Program
Each batch consists of 100 students from across the eight Northeastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
The program began with the first batch visiting ISRO’s Bengaluru facilities in April 2025, with subsequent batches organized in June and July.
Students get a rare opportunity to tour high-tech ISRO installations including the Satellite Control Centre, Mission Operations Complex, and Indian Deep Space Network at Byalalu.
They also visit the U R Rao Satellite Centre and the Indian Space Science Exhibition, along with the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium.
Educational Impact
The visits include interactive sessions with ISRO scientists and engineers, enhancing students’ understanding of satellite operations, mission planning, and deep space exploration.
Exclusive footage of missions like Chandrayaan-3 is showcased, fueling enthusiasm and reinforcing India’s leadership in space technology.
The program aims to inspire students to pursue careers in astronomy, space research, and other STEM disciplines.
Government and ISRO Support
The initiative was launched following the encouragement of Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, who highlighted the need for exposure and opportunities for Northeastern youth in cutting-edge science.
NESAC (North Eastern Space Applications Centre), under ISRO, coordinates the program in close partnership with the Capacity Building Programme Office at ISRO Headquarters.
