Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed Tata Group’s newly announced semiconductor assembly and test plant in Assam as a game-changer for the entire Northeast region. The greenfield facility in Morigaon, set to receive an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, is expected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily, significantly advancing India’s position in the global semiconductor industry.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi emphasised India’s remarkable progress in electronics and mobile manufacturing over the past decade and outlined the country’s ambition to replicate this success in the semiconductor sector. He attributed this growth to policy-driven reforms, continuous support for startups, and financial incentives under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India took a big leap in electronics and mobile manufacturing in the last 10 years. “India now wants to repeat this success story in semiconductors. Tata’s chip unit in Assam will promote tech growth in the north east,” he added.
PM Modi highlighted Assam’s evolving role as a key player in semiconductor production. He praised Tata Semiconductor’s recent launch of its assembly and technology facility in Jagiroad, stating that it would not only promote innovation but also establish Assam as a technological hub for the Northeast.
