Air India, under the Tata Group, has announced a strategic reduction in its international flight operations due to ongoing fleet constraints and shifting demand patterns. The move affects several key routes across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia and is expected to remain in place until newer aircraft join the fleet later this year.
Why the Cuts?
The airline is currently undergoing a major fleet revamp, with older planes being phased out and Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s awaiting delivery. As a result, flight frequencies on certain long-haul routes such as Delhi to Milan, Copenhagen, and New York (JFK) have been temporarily reduced.
Affected Routes
Delhi–Copenhagen: Suspended temporarily
Mumbai–Newark: Reduced from daily to four times a week
Delhi–Milan: Suspended due to low demand
Hyderabad–Chicago: Launch deferred
Bengaluru–San Francisco: Frequency reduced
Passenger Advisory
Customers booked on impacted flights are being notified via email and offered options such as full refunds, alternate connections, or free rebooking on partner airlines. Air India has also strengthened its customer care helpline to handle the surge in queries.
Looking Ahead
Air India reiterated its commitment to long-term global expansion, with over 470 new aircraft on order. Once deliveries begin in full swing, the airline aims to restore and expand its international network aggressively.
