In a heartbreaking turn of events, a pilgrim en route to the Amarnath shrine lost his life after being hit by a shooting stone along the Baltal route of the sacred pilgrimage.

📍 Location: Brarimarg area on the Baltal track

📅 Date: 17 July 2025

🚶 Victim: 40-year-old male pilgrim (name withheld pending family notification)

The impact of the stone caused severe head injuries, leading to instant death, according to Jammu and Kashmir police officials.

🚫 Yatra Temporarily Suspended

Following the incident, the Amarnath Yatra was suspended immediately as a precaution. Authorities cited unsafe terrain and risk of more falling stones due to ongoing landslides triggered by recent rains.

“Pilgrim safety is our top priority. The yatra will resume only after route inspection and clearance by BRO and disaster response teams,” – Shrine Board Official
