Bank Holiday Today? Here’s Whether Banks Are Open or Closed on Saturday, November 15

Vizzve Admin

Many customers are confused about whether banks will remain open today, Saturday, November 15. As per the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) standard banking rules, only the second and fourth Saturdays of every month are designated as bank holidays.
All other Saturdays—including today’s date—follow normal working hours.

Since November 15 does not fall on the second or fourth Saturday, banks will remain open as usual across India, except in regions with local state-specific holidays.

Understanding Saturday Bank Rules

RBI’s uniform guideline for banking operations states:

1st Saturday → OPEN

2nd Saturday → BANK HOLIDAY

3rd Saturday → OPEN

4th Saturday → BANK HOLIDAY

5th Saturday (if applicable) → OPEN

Today, November 15, falls on the third Saturday of the month.
Therefore, banks are operating normally with full business hours.

Exception: State-Wise Holidays

While national rules keep banks open today, a few states may observe regional festivals or government notifications that could cause closures in select branches.

Customers are advised to:

Check nearby branch notice boards

Confirm timings through banking apps or helplines

Use ATMs, UPI and net banking for urgent transactions

Services Available Today

Since banks are open, all regular services are functioning, including:

Cash deposits & withdrawals

Cheque clearance

Account updates

Loan and EMI-related assistance

Locker access

Customer service support

Digital services like UPI, IMPS, NEFT (except offline NEFT at branch), and net banking remain available 24×7.

Why Second and Fourth Saturdays Are Holidays

The RBI introduced this rule to:

Ensure uniformity across public, private and foreign banks

Provide balanced work-rest schedules to bank employees

Improve service efficiency on working days

Streamline transaction hours nationwide

Since implementation, Saturday banking has followed this predictable pattern.
