Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line to Launch on August 15 with Limited Service and Driverless Trains

Bengaluru’s much-awaited Metro Yellow Line is set to partially open on August 15, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the city’s public transport expansion. Operated by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the Yellow Line will debut with driverless trains and a limited service rollout initially.

This futuristic line is expected to transform commutes for thousands in the southern parts of the city, especially tech and industrial zones like Bommasandra, Electronic City, and Central Silk Board.

About the Yellow Line: A Key Corridor for South Bengaluru

Route: R.V. Road to Bommasandra

Total Length: Approx. 19.15 km

Total Stations: 16

Major Areas Covered: R.V. Road, Ragigudda, Silk Board, HSR Layout, Electronic City, Bommasandra

The line is designed to ease traffic congestion on Hosur Road and improve access to tech parks and residential areas.

Driverless Technology: First for Bengaluru Metro

The Yellow Line will be Bengaluru’s first metro corridor to operate driverless trains, utilizing Unattended Train Operation (UTO) systems. The trains are monitored and controlled remotely through advanced automated train control technology, ensuring safety, efficiency, and real-time adjustments.

This places Bengaluru Metro alongside global cities such as Singapore, Dubai, and Tokyo in embracing autonomous mass transit.

Initial Limited Rollout and Future Expansion

Although the full 19-km stretch is under development, only select sections will be operational from August 15, likely between Bommasandra and Central Silk Board, where infrastructure and testing are complete. The rest of the corridor will open in phases following safety approvals and trial runs.

Why the Yellow Line Matters

Reduces Traffic on Hosur Road: One of the city’s busiest corridors

Connects Employment Hubs: Tech and industrial areas including Electronic City

Faster Commutes: Reduced travel time compared to buses or personal vehicles

Supports Last-Mile Integration: With future metro lines and Bengaluru suburban rail
