The pregnant wife of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan currently in Pakistan's custody is pleading for answers after her husband was reportedly detained on the other side of the India-Pakistan border.
The jawan, identified as Lakhwinder Singh, was reportedly captured while patrolling the international border in the Rajasthan region. According to family members, Singh, a member of the BSF’s elite counter-insurgency unit, was on a routine patrol when he seemingly crossed into Pakistan's territory under unclear circumstances.
His wife, Simran Kaur, who is eight months pregnant, has expressed growing distress over the lack of communication and clarity from Indian authorities regarding her husband's fate. In an emotional plea to the Indian government, Kaur said, “I can’t wait forever. I need answers. My husband is a patriot, and he has always served the country with honor. I need him home for our family.”
A Family in Limbo
Simran Kaur, speaking to reporters, shared her heart-wrenching story of living in limbo since news of her husband's detainment reached her family over a week ago. The couple, married for three years, had been eagerly awaiting the birth of their first child, but now their world has been turned upside down.
"I never imagined I would have to face such a situation, especially during these months when I need his support the most," Kaur said, her voice breaking with emotion. She has urged both the Indian and Pakistani governments to engage in dialogue and ensure that her husband’s release is a top priority.
Official Response
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India has acknowledged the situation, stating that they are in constant touch with Pakistani authorities through diplomatic channels. However, no concrete update on the jawan’s condition or the exact circumstances of his detention has been provided as of now.
Sources within the BSF have also confirmed that they are working closely with the Indian government to determine how Singh may have ended up in Pakistani custody. The Indian Army and BSF have made it clear that any incident involving their personnel in foreign custody will be treated with the utmost seriousness.
Rising Tensions on the Border
Singh’s detention comes amid growing tensions along the India-Pakistan border, where both countries continue to maintain a heavy military presence. Although incidents of border crossings by soldiers have occurred in the past, both sides have generally worked to resolve such situations through established protocols.
Pakistan’s military, in a rare public statement, confirmed that the BSF jawan was in their custody, but offered little information on the next steps or potential charges.
A Nation's Call for Justice
Simran Kaur has called on the Indian government to act swiftly and bring her husband home. “I am waiting for the day when I can tell my child that their father came back safe,” she said. “Until then, I will keep hoping.”
Family members and fellow BSF jawans have rallied in support, demanding the government pursue every possible avenue to bring Lakhwinder Singh back to his family.
As the situation unfolds, the eyes of the nation remain fixed on the diplomatic negotiations between India and Pakistan, hoping for a quick and peaceful resolution.
