Project Overview
The ambitious Dehradun–Delhi Expressway, stretching over 210 km, is expected to be fully operational by October 2025. Once complete, the expressway will drastically reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun, offering faster, safer, and more convenient connectivity.
Key Highlights
Total Length: 210 km
Lanes: 6-lane access-controlled (expandable to 8 lanes)
Travel Time Reduction: From 6+ hours to approx. 2–2.5 hours
Speed Limit: 100 km/h
States Covered: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand
Wildlife & Eco-Friendly Features
A 12-km elevated wildlife corridor over Rajaji National Park – the longest of its kind in India – ensures eco-sensitive construction.
Includes a 3.4 km tunnel near Datkali to minimize environmental disruption.
Infrastructure Add-ons
113 road underpasses
5 railway overbridges
Multiple interchanges and rest areas
Smart toll plazas with FASTag integration
Route Map
The expressway connects Delhi → Baghpat → Baraut → Muzaffarnagar → Shamli → Saharanpur → Dehradun. Strategic links will also provide access to Haridwar and the Char Dham Highway, promoting both tourism and commerce.
Delays and Current Status
While the initial completion deadline was July 2025, minor delays due to land acquisition and pillar damage pushed the date to October. Partial sections may open earlier in phases, with the Akshardham–EPE (Eastern Peripheral Expressway) segment expected to be operational by August.
Why It Matters
The Dehradun–Delhi Expressway is not just a road—it's a game-changer for logistics, tourism, pilgrim travel, and regional development. It’s poised to become a model for smart, eco-sensitive expressway infrastructure in India.
