The national capital and its surrounding regions are experiencing a significant cold wave after a spell of heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning residents of biting cold conditions.

Cold wave intensifies in Delhi NCR, Cold wave alert , Delhi temperature : The cold wave conditions have further intensified in Delhi-NCR after rain lashed several parts on Friday. The heavy rains threw traffic out of gear in many places. It affected traffic in many areas of south, central, and north Delhi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘orange warning’ in Delhi. It forecast more showers during the day. According to the weather office, the rain started in Delhi-NCR around 2:30 am.

According to the Met Office, the national capital’s primary weather station -- the observatory at Safdarjung -- recorded 9.1 mm of rainfall till 11:30 am. The observatory at Palam recorded 8.4 mm of rainfall, Lodhi Road (10.8 mm), Ridge (9 mm), Delhi University (11 mm), and Pusa (9.5 mm).

The IMD predicted that the maximum and minimum temperatures in the national capital would be around 20 and 11 degrees Celsius, respectively. It also stated that the city will witness rain or thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph).

At 9 am, the air quality in the national capital was recorded in the 'very poor' category, with a reading of 372, according to Central Pollution Control Board data. On Thursday, the 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 345 at 4 pm.
AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Light to moderate rainfall also occurred at many places in Rajasthan due to a western disturbance. Several areas including Sikar, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Churu, and Hanumangarh districts received rain in the last 24 hours.
