A powerful explosion near Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening has left the city in shock. The blast, which occurred around 6:20 PM, reportedly involved a Hyundai i20 car, resulting in nine fatalities and over 20 injuries, according to preliminary police updates.

Authorities have launched a multi-agency investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast. Forensic teams and the National Security Guard (NSG) bomb disposal unit were immediately deployed to the scene.

 CCTV Footage Aids Investigation

Delhi Police confirmed that nearby CCTV footage captured the precise moment of the explosion, which will be used as key evidence in the ongoing probe.
The footage, recovered from a traffic camera close to Red Fort Metro Gate No. 2, reportedly shows the car halting briefly before the blast.

“Forensic experts are analyzing vehicle debris, camera footage, and chemical residues to determine whether the explosion was accidental or deliberate,” said a senior police official.

Investigators have not ruled out any possibility, and a terror angle is being closely examined in coordination with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

 Immediate Response and Casualties

Fire and rescue teams reached the site within minutes of the explosion. Injured victims were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) and Aruna Asaf Ali hospitals, where several remain under treatment.

Delhi Traffic Police closed Netaji Subhash Marg and Red Fort Metro entry/exit gates temporarily to secure the area.

“We are focusing on rescue, recovery, and evidence collection. Citizens are requested not to circulate unverified videos or messages,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.

 Security Tightened Across the Capital

Following the incident, security has been heightened across key landmarks in Delhi, including Connaught Place, India Gate, and major Metro stations.

Patrolling has been intensified, and dog squads along with anti-sabotage teams are conducting area sweeps.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has resumed partial operations after clearance from the police and NSG teams.
