The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday temporarily closed the Lal Qila Metro Station, following a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort area on Monday evening that left nine people dead and over 20 injured, officials confirmed.
Authorities said the closure was part of security and emergency response measures as multiple agencies continue investigations at the blast site near the Red Fort Metro Station parking area.
Lal Qila Metro Station Closed Till Further Notice
In an official statement, the DMRC said:
“As a precautionary measure, entry and exit at Lal Qila Metro Station on the Violet Line have been closed temporarily. Trains will continue to run between other stations on the corridor.”
The decision was taken in coordination with the Delhi Police and National Investigation Agency (NIA), which are conducting forensic and site-level inspections near the Red Fort precinct.
Commuters have been advised to use alternate nearby stations, including Jama Masjid and Kashmere Gate, until services resume.
Investigation Underway
Officials said teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA, and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were examining evidence from the car explosion site.
The area remains cordoned off, and traffic restrictions have been imposed on Netaji Subhash Marg and adjoining routes.
“The priority right now is public safety and preserving forensic evidence. Metro services near the site will remain suspended until clearance is given,” a senior police official said.
Sources confirmed that security has been heightened across Delhi, particularly near heritage sites and high-footfall public areas.
Public Advisory and Safety Measures
The Delhi Police urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information or footage related to the incident on social media.
Emergency response teams and DMRC personnel are stationed at key junctions to assist passengers and ensure safety.
Commuters have been requested to check real-time metro updates through the DMRC app and social media handles before traveling toward the Red Fort or Chandni Chowk area.
Security Tightened Across Delhi
In the aftermath of the explosion, the Union Home Ministry has directed intelligence and law enforcement agencies to conduct city-wide checks and strengthen surveillance across metro networks and public transport hubs.
Security forces have increased deployment at major landmarks including India Gate, Connaught Place, and railway stations, officials said.
