Bengaluru, November 5:
In a major breakthrough, the Halasuru Gate Police in Bengaluru have busted a fake ₹2,000 currency racket, arresting 10 people allegedly involved in printing and circulating counterfeit notes across the city. The arrests mark a significant step in curbing illegal currency circulation post the demonetization period.

Details of the Operation:

According to police reports, the accused were operating from a rented house in the Halasuru area, where they had set up printing equipment and materials to produce fake ₹2,000 notes. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid and seized a large quantity of counterfeit notes, printers, paper, and ink cartridges used in the illegal operation.

Officials said that the accused were distributing fake notes in small denominations through local markets and unsuspecting shopkeepers. Police are now investigating the source of materials and any possible links to larger counterfeit networks operating outside Karnataka.

Police Statement:

A senior officer from the Halasuru Gate Police Station stated,

“We received credible information about fake notes being circulated. After days of surveillance, our team conducted a successful raid and arrested 10 people. The total value of seized counterfeit currency runs into lakhs of rupees.”

The police have also registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for counterfeiting and criminal conspiracy.

Further Investigation Underway:

Authorities are now tracking down the network’s possible connections to interstate counterfeit gangs. Forensic experts will examine the seized notes to determine the quality and source of the printing.

Public Advisory:

Police have urged citizens and traders to carefully check currency notes, especially those in ₹2,000 denominations, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
