Karnataka JD(S) MLA Rejects Session Allowance, Says No Progress for North Karnataka
By Vizzve Finance News Desk
In a strong statement against the Karnataka government, JD(S) MLA Sharanagouda Kandakur has rejected his session allowance, alleging that no significant progress has been made for North Karnataka despite high government spending on legislative sessions.
Kandakur, who represents the Aland constituency, said the legislative sessions have become more about political showmanship than addressing the people’s real issues.
“Thousands of crores are being spent on these sessions, but farmers in North Karnataka still await compensation for flood losses. There’s no progress in infrastructure or irrigation,” Kandakur said.
Criticism Over Lack of Development
The MLA expressed frustration over unequal development between southern and northern regions of Karnataka. He accused the state government of ignoring the demands for better roads, water supply, and employment opportunities in rural districts like Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, and Yadgir.
Kandakur stated that he could not, in good conscience, accept the session allowance when the very sessions meant for public welfare were failing to deliver tangible results.
“Until real work begins for North Karnataka, I will not take the allowance,” he declared.
Flood-Affected Farmers Left in Distress
The legislator further pointed out that farmers affected by recent floods have not yet received compensation or support. Despite multiple appeals to the government, no relief packages have been distributed, he alleged.
Kandakur urged the Chief Minister and concerned departments to act swiftly and transparently to ensure funds reach those most in need.
Political Reactions
While JD(S) leaders have supported Kandakur’s stance, opposition members from both Congress and BJP have taken note, calling it a “wake-up call” for the government.
Political observers say Kandakur’s move could ignite renewed debate on regional imbalance in Karnataka’s development.
