Mumbai CNG Crisis: Only 225 Out Of 389 Stations Functioning — Commuters & Transport Sector Hit

Vizzve Admin

Mumbai continues to face a major CNG supply disruption, leaving large parts of the city struggling for fuel access. According to the latest update, only 225 out of the total 389 CNG stations are currently operational, forcing long queues, extended waiting hours, fuel rationing and heavy inconvenience for public transport users.

The shortage has severely affected autorickshaw drivers, taxi fleets, school vans, last-mile delivery vehicles, commercial transport operators and daily wage drivers — many of whom depend entirely on CNG for affordable daily operations. Some drivers reportedly had to stand in queues for hours, while others temporarily parked vehicles due to inaccessible fuel supply, resulting in income loss.

The situation has also led to fare hikes, cancellations, reduced service frequency and increased dependence on alternative modes like buses, metro, and app-based cabs running on petrol or electric fleets. Transport unions have expressed concerns over financial stress, unstable operations and potential fare revisions if the issue continues.

Apart from daily commuting, the crisis also poses challenges for essential goods mobility, logistics and last-mile delivery, especially during peak hours.

Authorities are expected to restore full operational capacity soon, but until then, citizens are advised to plan travel offline and online, avoid unnecessary rush hours, and consider shared mobility options where possible.
