Authorities have begun a multi-state investigation into the Red Fort car explosion in Delhi, with leads emerging from Surat, Kashmir, Faridabad, and the national capital region (NCR), officials said on Tuesday.
The case, which left nine people dead and several injured, has prompted an extensive probe by Delhi Police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and multiple state law enforcement units.
A Multi-State Investigation
Sources in the security establishment confirmed that teams have been dispatched to several states, including Gujarat, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir, to trace potential links connected to the vehicle and individuals involved in the explosion.
Officials emphasized that it is too early to draw conclusions about motives or affiliations, but the investigation has expanded based on forensic and digital evidence collected from the blast site near Red Fort Metro Station.
“We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account,” Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday evening.
The Home Minister also reviewed the security situation in Delhi with top officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Delhi Police Commissionerate.
Tracing The Vehicle And Ownership
Investigators have identified the Hyundai i20 car involved in the incident and are examining its registration details, ownership history, and movement patterns prior to the explosion.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is analyzing material recovered from the site, while the National Security Guard (NSG) has submitted a preliminary technical assessment to the Delhi Police Special Cell.
“At this stage, every technical, mechanical, and criminal angle is being examined. We are not ruling out any scenario,” a senior investigator told NDTV.
Coordination Between Central and State Agencies
The Union Home Ministry has directed coordination between central intelligence agencies and local police forces in Surat, Faridabad, and Srinagar, where potential suspects or connections may be traced.
Officials have also sought assistance from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and cyber forensics units to identify communication trails linked to the incident.
“Every inter-state lead is being pursued to ensure there are no gaps in the investigation. This is a coordinated effort,” an MHA source said.
Security Heightened In Delhi
Following the incident, security has been intensified across key areas of Delhi, especially near monuments, markets, and public transport hubs.
The Delhi Police have set up temporary vehicle checkpoints and are conducting enhanced surveillance in central and northern districts of the city.
Citizens have been urged to avoid spreading misinformation or unverified footage on social media.
