Born on April 10, 1934, in Ri-Bhoi district.

Began his career as a road laborer and later became a school sub-inspector.

Entered politics in 1972, elected to the first Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from Nongpoh as an independent candidate.

Later joined the Indian National Congress (INC), representing Nongpoh for decades.
