📰 Shwetha Menon Becomes First Female President of AMMA Amid Controversy

In a historic move, actress Shwetha Menon has been elected as the first female president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Her election marks a significant shift in the organization's leadership, which has traditionally been male-dominated. Menon secured 159 votes, defeating veteran actor Devan, who received 132 votes, out of 298 ballots cast by the 506 eligible members.

This election comes nearly a year after the resignation of the previous president, Mohanlal, and the entire executive committee, following the release of the Hema Committee report. The report highlighted serious allegations, including sexual harassment and pay disparity, within the Malayalam film industry.

Menon's victory is seen as a step towards greater gender representation and reform within AMMA. She has expressed her commitment to bringing about meaningful changes and has extended an invitation to former members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) to rejoin the organization.
