Delhi-Noida Weather Forecast: Storms, Rain & Sticky Heat Ahead

Residents of Delhi and Noida can brace for a week of unsettled weather, with daily thunderstorms, rain, and high humidity expected to persist until at least May 24, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the region, signaling the likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds throughout the week .

Temperature Outlook

Despite the anticipated rainfall, temperatures will remain elevated:

  • Delhi: Highs ranging from 38°C to 42°C; lows between 28°C and 30°C.

  • Noida: Highs between 39°C and 43°C; lows around 27°C to 30°C.

These conditions will contribute to a sticky heat, where the combination of high temperatures and humidity can make the air feel warmer than the actual temperature.

Humidity & Heat Index

Even with intermittent rain, the humidity levels will remain high, leading to a significant heat index. The heat index combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine the apparent temperature—the human-perceived equivalent temperature. For instance, when the temperature is 32°C with 70% relative humidity, the heat index is 41°C .

This means that despite occasional rain, the discomfort from the heat will persist, making it important to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Weather Alerts & Safety Precautions

The IMD has highlighted the following weather conditions for Delhi and Noida:

  • Thunderstorms: Accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

  • Rainfall: Intermittent showers expected throughout the week.

  • Gusty Winds: Wind speeds may reach up to 60 km/h, potentially causing minor damage.

Safety Tips:

  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours.

  • Secure loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds.

  • Stay indoors during thunderstorms to minimize the risk of lightning strikes.

  • Keep electronic devices charged in case of power outages.

School Closures & Adjustments

In response to the ongoing heat and weather conditions, the Uttar Pradesh education department has announced summer vacations for all government and aided schools in Noida from May 20 to June 30 for classes 1 to 12. Several private schools have also scheduled early holidays for junior sections, beginning as early as May 16, while vacations for senior classes will commence from June 1. Authorities are allowing summer camps between May 21 and June 10 but recommend they be conducted during the cooler morning hours from 7 am to 10 am .

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
