Ahmedabad witnessed a sea of devotion and color as thousands of devotees gathered to participate in the 148th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath on Thursday. Organized by the Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur, the grand event showcased Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage, religious fervor, and heavy security arrangements to ensure a smooth procession.

The Rath Yatra, which began early in the morning, featured the procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra on grandly decorated chariots (raths), pulled by devotees amid chants, music, and spiritual enthusiasm.

Highlights of the event:

The yatra began after Mangal Aarti and Pahind Vidhi (traditional ceremonial cleaning of the road) by Gujarat’s Chief Minister.

A 23-km-long route was covered, passing through key localities in the city including Kalupur, Shahpur, and Saraspur.

Devotional tableaux, akharas (martial arts displays), elephants, and camels added to the traditional spectacle.

Over 18,000 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order during the event.
