Deoghar, Jharkhand | July 29, 2025:

In a tragic turn of events during the ongoing Shrawan Kanwar Yatra, five Kanwariyas lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district early Tuesday morning.

The accident took place on the Deoghar-Dumka road near the Fatehpur area, a busy route frequented by Kanwariyas on foot, especially during the holy month of Shrawan. The victims were part of a group heading towards the Baidyanath Dham temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, to offer Ganga jal to Lord Shiva.

According to eyewitnesses, a speeding pickup van lost control and rammed into the group. Local authorities rushed to the scene, and the injured were immediately taken to Deoghar Sadar Hospital. The condition of three pilgrims is reported to be critical.

Deoghar SP Subhash Singh confirmed the casualties and stated that an investigation is underway. The driver of the van fled the scene but was later apprehended by police.
