MAJOR TRAIN SHIFT: KSR BENGALURU TRAINS TO OPERATE FROM SMVT FOR 153 DAYS

In a major operational change, Indian Railways has temporarily shifted three key daily train services—connecting KSR Bengaluru to Kannur, Ernakulam, and Nanded—to originate and terminate from SMVT Bengaluru (SMVB) instead of KSR Bengaluru City Junction. This change will remain in effect for 153 days, starting from August 2025.

TRAINS AFFECTED BY THE SHIFT TO SMVT BENGALURU

1. Ernakulam–SMVT Bengaluru Superfast Express (Train No. 12677/12678)

Effective Period: From 15 August 2025 to 16 January 2026

New Origin and Termination Station: SMVT Bengaluru

Route Impact:

No stoppage at KSR Bengaluru or Bengaluru Cantonment

Train will run via Carmelaram and Baiyyappanahalli

2. Kannur–SMVT Bengaluru Express (Train No. 16511/16512)

Effective Period: From 16 August 2025 to 16 January 2026

New Origin and Termination Station: SMVT Bengaluru

Route Impact:

No stoppage at KSR Bengaluru City Station

Will operate via Yesvantpur, Hebbal, Banaswadi

3. Nanded–SMVT Bengaluru Express (Train No. 16593/16594)

Effective Period: Same 153-day window

New Origin and Termination: SMVT Bengaluru

Route Impact:

Skips KSR Bengaluru City Junction

Passengers must plan using SMVT as the boarding point

WHY THIS SHIFT TO SMVT BENGALURU?

The temporary relocation is due to infrastructure upgrades and pit-line maintenance work at KSR Bengaluru City Station (SBC) and Yesvantpur Station. To reduce congestion and allow smooth railway operations during the construction phase, select trains are being rerouted through Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT), which is equipped with modern platforms and operational capacity.
